Peggy Smith Bush is a founding partner of Southern Trial Counsel | PLC. Peggy received her B.S. from the University of North Alabama in 1984, majoring in Marketing. After graduation, she worked in television and radio. In 1992, Peggy obtained her Series 7 and Series 63 Securities Licenses and worked with top producers at Prudential Securities and Robinson-Humphrey-Smith Barney in the sale of stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Peggy received her law degree from Barry University School of Law cum laude, where she served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. She distinguished herself academically, winning "Book Awards" and graduating in the top ten percent of her class. She excelled in oral advocacy, winning the First Year Student Outstanding Oral Advocacy Award, appointment to the Moot Court Team, and actively competing as part of the Student Trial Advocacy Team.

Focusing her practice on defending companies is a natural fit between Peggy's education and experience in law and her background in business. Having spent the last 30 years working in and for companies, Peggy has spent the last 14 years defending lawsuits brought against manufacturers, insurance companies, and other businesses. Most of her cases have involved allegations of product liability, personal injury, wrongful death, and/or premises liability. Along the way, she has drawn upon her business background of leadership, service, and teamwork. Peggy has attained awards, such as being selected as a Rising Star by Florida Super Lawyers for three consecutive years. She has been inducted into the International Association of Defense Counsel, which according to its website is comprised of a worldwide membership of 2,500 invitation-only peer-reviewed leading corporate and insurance lawyers. She was selected as a Florida Legal Elite in 2013. She is an active member of the Transportation Lawyers Association, where she enjoys her work as Chair of the Diversity Sub-Committee. She is also a member of the Florida Bar Animal Law Section. Most recently, Peggy was appointed to The Florida Bar Senior Lawyers Committee and is an active member of the OCBA Professionalism Committee.

Peggy is licensed to practice before the Courts of Florida, all three U.S. Districts in Florida, the 11th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a Certified Litigation Management Professional, certified by the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance after a focused program at Columbia Law School.

Peggy and her husband, Stephen, have been married since 1985 and have twin sons born February 2017. Peggy enjoys spending time with family and friends, music, college football, cooking, reading, abstract watercolor painting, and traveling. She concentrates her volunteer activities to benefit the health and welfare of children, the elderly, and senior pets.
